What Is an Instructional Tandem Flight?

An instructional tandem is more than just a scenic ride. You’re attached to a qualified paragliding instructor in a two-person paraglider. Once we’re safely in the air, I’ll let you take the brakes, feel how the wing responds, and guide you through the basic skills of real paragliding:

  • How to launch and turn safely

  • How to read the air and use lift

  • How to control speed and glide

  • How to land smoothly and confidently

It’s the perfect way to find out if paragliding is for you – with zero pressure and maximum safety.

Is This for You?

Instructional tandem flights are ideal if you:

  • Are curious about learning to paraglide but don’t want to commit to a full course yet

  • Want a first lesson in the air, not just a passenger ride

  • Already fly but want a refresher or confidence boost with an instructor

  • Want to give a unique, skill-building gift to a friend or partner

No previous flying experience is required. A basic level of fitness and the ability to jog a few steps for launch and landing is enough.

How the flight works (step-by-step)

1. Briefing

We cover the basics, gear, and safety before launch.

2. Take-off

We launch from Coronet Peak and settle into smooth flight.

3. You Fly

You take the controls and feel how the wing responds.

4. Landing

We guide the approach and landing for a soft finish.

We talk through the basics: how the wing works, safety procedures, and what we’ll practice in the air. You’ll get fitted with a harness and helmet and we’ll check conditions.
I’ll guide you through the launch. Once we’re flying and settled, I’ll explain what I’m doing and talk you through each control input.
When it’s safe, you’ll take the brakes and feel how the wing responds. We’ll practice gentle turns, speed control, and whatever the conditions allow.
I take full control for landing (unless we’ve agreed otherwise), talking you through the approach so you can understand the complete flight.

Safety First, Always

  • Certified paragliding instructor’s

  • 14+ years flying and teaching

  • Modern tandem equipment, regularly inspected

  • We only fly in suitable conditions and always with a clear safety margin

Your job is to listen, ask questions, and enjoy the experience. My job is to manage the conditions, the wing, and your safety.

What You’ll Learn in One Flight

In a single instructional tandem, you can expect to:

  • Understand the basic anatomy of a paraglider

  • Learn take-off and landing techniques

  • Practice brake inputs and turning

  • Feel the difference between calm air and lift/sink

  • Ask anything about training paths, gear, and next steps

You’ll leave with a clear idea of whether paragliding is something you want to continue with – and exactly what the next steps are.
