Advanced pilot training · New Zealand

Your next
breakthrough doesn’t
depend on where you
started.

Trained elsewhere?
Flying in from overseas?
You’re welcome here.
Our proven coaching system meets you at your current level and builds the skills, judgement and confidence to fly better.
Bring your experience with you

You’re not starting over. You’re building from where you are.

Infinity’s advanced pilot pathway is open to pilots trained at other schools and in other countries. We begin by understanding how you currently fly, then establish a clear technical language and build from there.

You may arrive with a New Zealand rating, an overseas licence, years of experience or a specific gap you want to close. The expectation is the same: active participation, disciplined practice and a willingness to examine every input.

We begin with a conversation and an honest assessment. Then we shape the coaching around the pilot.

01

Visiting New Zealand

Translate your existing experience into a clear New Zealand training pathway.
02

Trained at another school

Translate your existing experience into a clear New Zealand training pathway.
03

Licensed—but not settled

If the card says qualified but your wing still feels unclear, stronger fundamentals can change everything.
04

Experienced and plateaued

Refine the small inputs, judgement and habits that separate more airtime from better flying.

The foundation beneath every course

Advanced flying begins with a clearer relationship with your wing.

Pitch, roll and yaw are not abstract theory. They are the movements underneath your launches, turns, surges, thermalling, collapses, recoveries and transitions.
Pitch
Recognise and manage the wing’s movement ahead of and behind you.
Roll
Use harness, brake and timing to create or settle bank.
Yaw
Understand heading changes and coordinate clean, efficient turns.
Already licensed? We use the same fundamentals to reveal gaps, remove compensations and make your existing experience more useful.
MAIN ADVANCED COURSES

Build the pilot—not just the manoeuvre.

Each course has a distinct objective, but the pathway is connected. Better canopy understanding improves SIV. Better SIV decisions improve cross-country. Better cross-country decisions improve competition flying.

The technical foundation behind every stage of advanced flying.
The essential technical foundation behind advanced flying. Develop a precise understanding of canopy dynamics, pilot inputs, energy management and the relationship between you and your wing.
You’ll work on
+ Pitch, roll & yaw
+ Brake range & pressure
+ Harness input
+ Coordinated turns
A strong fit for
New pilots, licence conversions and experienced pilots rebuilding their base
Specialist & professional pathways

Targeted training for where you want to fly next.

These programmes support specific ratings, sites, equipment and advanced disciplines. Talk with us and we will help place them in the right order for your current ability.

Professional pathway

Tandem Pilot Training

From your first training tandem to complete rating sign-off.

We take you through your first tandem training flights, your first flights as pilot in command and the remaining work required for your tandem rating. We can also prepare you for the transition into commercial tandem operations.

SP-02

SIV preparation

Pre-SIV Course

Arrive above the lake ready to learn more from every tow.

Build the four fundamentals before your SIV. You’ll arrive at the tow boat better prepared, more coordinated and ready to use the height and airtime for deeper manoeuvre work.

+ Trust the harness

+ Dissociate the hands
+ Full brake range

+ Situational awareness

SP-03

New Zealand rating

PG3 · Advanced Pilot

Build the ability behind New Zealand’s advanced pilot rating.

The PG3 demonstrates a high level of piloting ability, opens access to advanced PG3 sites and is the gateway to becoming a tandem paraglider pilot in New Zealand.

+ High-altitude judgement
+ SIV progression

+ XC progression

SP-04

Dynamic control

Acro Fundamentals

Understand the control before chasing the manoeuvre.

Learn the foundations of paraglider acrobatics through positive and negative manoeuvre families. Understand the control each manoeuvre requires, how energy moves and which cautionary measures belong with it.

+ Positive manoeuvres

+ Negative manoeuvres
+ Energy & control

+ Cautions & recovery

Local site certification

Queenstown Gondola

Know the site—not just the launch.

Learn the topography, meteorology, site procedures and local decision-making needed to fly from Queenstown’s gondola site, and complete the pathway toward your gondola flying certification.

Hike & fly

Single-Skin Course

Open up terrain a conventional wing can make impractical.

Understand single-skin launch characteristics, suitable launch sites, glide ratios, roll and pitch control, and specialist landing techniques that open access to places that were previously out of reach.

The Infinity teaching system

Better inputs begin with better understanding.

Our coaching is structured around understanding, observation, deliberate practice and honest debriefing. You will know what you are trying to change, why it matters and how to evaluate the result. We are interested in what you notice, decide and do—not in waiting for the wing to solve the situation for you.
01

Assess

We observe what you already do well, where uncertainty appears and what will
create the biggest change.
02

Understand

We make the movement, energy and decision clear before adding workload in the air.
03

Practise

Exercises are progressive, purposeful and adjusted to your actual response—not a generic checklist.
04

Transfer

Debriefs connect what happened to the next flight, so the lesson becomes repeatable judgement.
Four principles run through the coaching:
Trust the harness
Use the full brake range
Dissociate the hands
Maintain situational awareness
What progression feels like

“Not more manoeuvres for the sake of them. More understanding, better decisions and a calmer pilot when the air becomes demanding.”

Calm instruction
Clear communication keeps cognitive load manageable while you learn.
Personal progression
The exercise changes with your response, experience and goal.
Useful debriefs
Review turns an isolated flight into a lesson you can repeat.
